MUSEO DUE FONDERIE

Il Museo Due Fonderie è situato all’interno degli ex magazzini ferroviari, un tempo snodo per la materia prima che, dalla miniera di Montevecchio, era portata allo stabilimento industriale di San Gavino Monreale per la lavorazione.

Inaugurato ufficialmente il 20 Aprile 2013 per volere dell’Amministrazione Comunale, il Museo e Centro di documentazione deve il suo nome alla storia dell’antica fonderia di Villacidro e della moderna fonderia di San Gavino Monreale.

L’obiettivo è quello di creare un museo in continua evoluzione che, oltre a conservare l’immensa eredità lasciata nel territorio dall’attività metallurgica, diventi anche un polo attrattivo capace di documentare la storia della popolazione locale protagonista della transizione da comunità agropastorale a realtà industrializzata.

Il Museo Due Fonderie si propone di raccogliere, salvaguardare e trasmettere alle nuove generazioni la ricca eredità culturale, materiale e immateriale, della fonderia di San Gavino Monreale e dell’antica fonderia di Villacidro, documentando la storia delle comunità attraverso testimonianze orali, oggetti, scritti e immagini legati alla vita e al lavoro in fabbrica.

La struttura è perciò rivolta a tutti gli appassionati di storia e archeologia industriale, a coloro che hanno o ancora svolgono qualsiasi ruolo nella storia della fonderia, ma soprattutto ai giovani che con questo museo avranno preziosi strumenti per conoscere e capire meglio gli ultimi ottanta anni della nostra storia, con le sue profonde trasformazioni storiche, economiche e sociali.

Il museo ospita un allestimento che comprende testimonianze orali registrate, oggetti e documenti legati alla vita e al lavoro in fabbrica, donati dai cittadini e dalla fonderia stessa. È presente inoltre un’area proiezioni dedicata alla visione e all’ascolto delle testimonianze dell’archivio del museo, tra filmati, documentari e interviste.

“DUE FONDERIE” MUSEUM

The Due Fonderie Museum (Two Foundries Museum) is located in the former railway warehouse, which in the past was the reference warehouse for raw materials, before they were transported from mines of Montevecchio to the Foundry to be processed.

It was officially inaugurated on 20^th April 2013 by the Local Administration; the museum and archive and information centre owes its name to the ancient foundry of Villacidro and the modern one of San Gavino Monreale.

The purpose is to create a museum in constant development which, besides keeping the huge heritage of this territory left by the metallurgical activity, can become an attractive place capable of gathering all the historical information about the local population, in the passage from being a community of farmers and shepherds to an industrialized reality.

The Due Fonderie Museum aims at gathering, safeguarding and transmitting the rich cultural, material and knowledge heritage of the foundries of San Gavino Monreale and Villacidro to the new generations by collecting oral testimonies, objects, written documents and pictures of life and work in the factory.

This museum is, therefore, ideal for all the history and industrial archaeology enthusiasts, for those who had or still have a role within the history of the foundry, but, above all, for all the young people who – thanks to this museum – will have precious instruments to know and understand the last eighty years of our history, with its profound historical, economic and social changes.

The museum hosts a collection which includes recorded oral testimonies, objects and documents which recounts life and work in the factory, donated by the citizens and the foundry itself. There is also a room where you can watch and listen to the testimonies via films, documentaries and interviews kept in the museum archive.
